Chapter 265 - A Tough Enemy

The Type 3 Leader on the throne noticed Dom's eyes looking in his direction, a cruel grin appearing on it's face revealing the sharp pointed fangs in his mouth, fresh flesh dangling from them. It was only at this moment that Dom noticed it had been eating something whilst watching the fight, the lower parts of a humans leg.

"That's the leader then." Subutai stated as he fired another arrow in to the crowd, regret hitting him that they hadn't brought any Forbidden Guard or Horse Archers with them. At some point whilst Dom was watching the space, Subutai had shouted towards Xun You again asking for some slingers, who were now appearing in batches and firing with their close range slings towards the heads of the enemies behind the Legionaries wall. Dom wished for some Pilum, but all had been used and damaged in either Nakbe or the tunnels.

"Seems so." Dom replied, grasping the Slaying Spear the Rhongomyniad that was back in his hands tightly. His sword the Harpe was strapped to his waist and part of him was screaming to get in to the fight, even though his brain was telling him that he couldn't defeat the enemy leader.

Guo Sheng and his foe were still duelling, with Guo Sheng finally getting the advantage and parrying the enemies wild sword strikes and catching them with the bottom of his spear. The Legionaries by now had pushed the line forwards enough so that Guo Sheng's duel wouldn't be interrupted by Type 3's. Subutai had ordered the not to get involved as Guo Sheng seemed to be enjoying the fight.

Whilst the Legionaries continued to fight, more stones were shot over the lines, catching enemies in their armour. Some fell, however many continued as if the pain and broken limbs from the impacts was insignificant.

"Their armour is durable." Subutai commented as he saw some of the shots create dents in the armour but not passing through. "I want to know where they scavenged it from."

The enemy Leader continued to sit on the throne, eating from the human leg whilst he watched the fight unfold in front of him, his intelligent eyes watching as his army slowly succumbed to the Legionaries fierceness and repeated strikes. The Tiger Cavalry had also completely destroyed the flanks and the Type 3's were slowly being encircled by the Riverside forces. Less than thirty percent of the Type 3's were left where as, even though the Riverside forces were tired, they kept tight formations and kept rotating the front lines.

"Why isn't he moving." Dom wondered out loud as Guo Sheng pierced his foe through the throat, before taking a step back and breathing whilst the Legionaries pushed past him to protect him.

"I think you asked too soon." Subutai replied as the leader put down the leg he was eating and lifted the sword that had been resting against the chair. The sword was double edged and resembled a Jian sword from Ancient China, it was long and black in colour with intricate patters down the centre of the blade. Dom couldn't see the handle in the enemy Leaders hand, but the blade was around eighty centimetres long. The sword however as long as it was, looked small in the Type 3's hand, as he stood up and revealed his height, almost the size of Dom's Batavi Guards.

"I don't fancy duelling him as well." Guo Sheng breathed heavily as he arrived beside Dom and Subutai, "I think that will be a bit more of a challenge."

"I'm sure you will be fine." Subutai replied with encouragement and a teasing smile. "I think you should go for it."

"I think he is too senior for me." Guo Sheng replied with a roll of his eyes, "Maybe you as the Commander should have a go?"

"I think I may have pulled my calf when I was rushing here earlier." Subutai stated with a shrug of his shoulders and a face that couldn't possibly be lying. They both then turned to Dom, who was staring intently at the enemy leader, his hands grasping his Spear tightly in anticipation.

"I will go." A voice echoed from behind them, as the Captain of the Batavi Guards that protected all of the Generals spoke. Actumerus was the tallest human in the room, with a large two handed sword in his hand, whilst his large oval shield was in the other to protect Dom and himself if needed.

The three of them looked at Actumerus in surprise, before acknowledging that he was most likely the stronger person in the room, the other guards all seemed to agree, stepping to the side slightly so he could step forwards. Subutai gave Dom a knowing grin, which Dom didn't seem to understand at first.

The enemy Leader rolled his neck, before stamping forwards down the pathway, the sword swirling in his hand as he got himself ready to fight. The Type 3's were still fighting, their number diminishing, but the Tiger Cavalry that had them pushed in at the flanks seemed to back off as the Leader walked down. His eyes flickering around the battlefield as if to signal that he was the boss in this room.

As he approached his own Warriors, he pushed them aside with his arm, not caring if he pushed them in to the blades of the Humans that were fighting against him, as he marched in the direction of Dom, Subutai and Guo Sheng.

"Make way!" Subutai ordered as the Leader approached the Legionaries Wall, not wanting any of them men to be caught by his powerful arm swing. The sword had stayed pointing downwards, but Subutai worried about the damage it could cause to their Warriors.

The Legionaries parted ways, with those in the rear rows turning their shields so that they couldn't be flanked at the side from him. Actumerus paced forwards to meet him, his neck rolling and his shoulder raising and lowering as he loosened himself up. He then put his shield down and grabbed his sword with two hands, ready to duel against the enemy Leader.

The Leader's eyes widened at Actumerus's approach and he showed his sharp teeth in an evil grin, before he finally raised his sword and swung at the Batavi Centurion. Actumerus raised his sword to meet it, a sharp ring echoing as the two weapons met. They both stepped back from each other, preparing to strike each other again.

"His sword has been dinted." Guo Sheng exclaimed quietly to Dom and Subutai, who noticed the notch in Actumerus's blade.

The Batavi attacked this time, swinging his sword heavily towards the Leaders neck, however the Leader raised his armoured arm and deflected the blade, before swinging his own sword towards the exposed Batavi.

Whilst this happened, the Legionaries, Slingers and Tiger Cavalry finished off the remaining Type 3's whilst their Leader fought against Actumerus with an overwhelming advantage.

"He doesn't have the pace of his species, but his strength more than makes up for it." Dom stated honestly as Actumerus dodged the sword strike by rolling his body to the side. The Leader didn't give him chance to recover, punching his free arm towards Actumerus's face and catching the Batavi in the cheek.

Actumerus took the punch well, not allowing it to cause him any weakness in the fight as he punched back with the hilt of his sword. The two shared blows for a couple more bouts, whilst Subutai whispered some orders to the guards who quickly dispersed towards the different Centurions.

"I don't understand why people choose to duel." He commented, as Actumerus was on the back foot again, being pushed back by the fierce attacks from the enemy Leader. "Actumerus, drop!"

As Subutai ordered Actumerus dropped, instilled in him that he should follow Subutai's order. As he did a number of stones hit the Leader from the slingers attacks, before Subutai himself shot an arrow that caught it in the shoulder blade, just below the neck. The armour had taken most of the attacks, but it was enough for the Legionaries to charge in with their shields and enclose him, their blades stabbing in to his flesh, whilst shields crushed him. Dom's other guards dragged Actumerus back as this happened, and the enemy Leader dropped to one knee, coughing blood as more spread from his body from his open wounds.

"Step back!" Subutai ordered, as the Legionaries followed their order whilst him, Dom and Guo Sheng walked forwards. He turned to Dom and smiled, "Just like the Gluttonous Chief."

"You really don't like duels do you?" Dom asked as they approached the Leader, who was holding himself up weakly with a defiant look in his eyes.

"Why risk loosing great Warriors when you already have the advantage." He replied honestly. "If it can save the lives of thousands then so be it, but we had already won."

Two of the other Batavi Guards quickly held down the Enemy Leader, whilst another kicked the black sword in his hands away, his knee accidently catching the enemy in the face, who responded with a grunt and attempting to bite at the Batavi Guard. Whilst he was heavily injured from the many stab wounds, he was still dangerous and thrashing angrily against the two Batavi Guards that held him down, who were using their full strength to pin him down.

Dom walked towards him with Guo Sheng and Subutai beside him. He looked around the hall as he walked where his men were clearing up and making sure to finish off any enemy that wasn't fully dead yet. The occasional screech echoing over the lines of Legionaries that surrounded them from a dying foe. The Enemy Leader seemed disinterested in their deaths, instead focusing on the three that were approaching him.

"I'm not sure if you understand me, and part of me doesn't overly care." Dom began as he got closer to the thrashing Enemy Leader, his spear still in his hand and grabbed tightly. Who seemed to stop thrashing as Dom began speaking, his old eyes watching the young armoured human that was approaching him, who was clearly the leader as those around him deferred to him. Dom got on to one knee so that his eyes were level with the enemy leaders. His face was getting dangerously close that if he broke free from the Guards he could easily bite at Dom's face. Guo Sheng was about to stop Dom, however Subutai put his arm on Guo Sheng's shoulder to stop him. "We had eliminated your army, and now we have eliminated your people. Your army burned to death, whilst your people have been cut down one by one."

The Enemy Leader growled, his shoulders tensing. Dom wasn't sure if he understood the words he said, but he definitely understood the meaning behind them.

"I am not sure if their deaths were as bad as they should have been, for all of the pain and trauma you have caused." Dom continued, "But I will tell you this, if another member of your species enters my land, their pitiful lives will be ended."

Dom then, without giving the enemy time to respond, pushed his spear forwards under the Enemy Leaders chin, pushing with all of his strength so that the tip of the Rhongomyniad pierced through the spinal cord and through to the brain of the Enemy Leaders, whose heavy body dropped. As he did so, Subutai nodded his head proudly, whilst Guo Sheng looked on in surprise at Dom's action.

"Search the building!" Subutai ordered loudly as the Legionaries, Slingers and Tiger Guard all watched Dom's action, a feeling of pride in their hearts. "I want every floor searched, any enemy found is to be killed immediately. Any survivors, if there are any, are to be treated humanly. This place was once a tomb, and I want the place treated with respect! I also want to find the owner of that leg! Any questions?"

"No General!" Octavian shouted back loudly, "You heard the Commander, Marius head up stairs with your Century. Flavius, clear this floor and see if there is a basement! Chen Lu, spread your Tigers out so every unit has one with them!"

The Legionaries quickly dispersed, Guo Sheng patted Dom on the shoulder, who was still staring at the dead Enemy Leader, before heading off towards the stairs that were in the far corner where Centurion Marius was heading to. Subutai shouted a few more orders towards the slingers and to Xun You who was still outside, before coming alongside Dom.

"With this, the North of our Kingdom is secured." Subutai explained proudly. "Now we just need to subjugate the South and we will be ready."

Subutai then put his hand out, which Dom clasped as Subutai helped him from the floor, the Rhongomyniad still impaled in the enemies skull. The Batavi Guards laid him down and retrieved the spear, whilst flanking beside Dom.

"Let's go pay respect to the owner of this Tomb, before we claim it as our own." Dom replied with a smile, agreeing with Subutai's comment, the North was theirs.
