Rhys screamed.
It wasn't a startled cry or the kind of sound a warrior made when caught off guard.
It was a raw, guttural sound. The kind that tore through the soul.
Everyone spun toward him.
Corey's eyes widened as black blood poured from Rhys' eyes.
The man staggered back, clawing at his face.
"My eyes! I can't! I can't SEE! SOMETHING'S IN MY HEAD!" He screamed in fear and pain while moving about in a chaotic manner.
Blood ran down his cheeks, then down his neck, soaking the collar of his armor.
He fell to one knee, his shield falling to the ground with a heavy clang.
The rest of the group froze, caught between disbelief and horror.
"Rhys! Hold still!" Kieran barked, moving toward him.
But it was already too late.
With a sickening sound, like wet fruit being carved open, Rhys' hands pulled away from his face, revealing nothing where his eyes had once been.
Just two deep, hollow sockets like someone had scooped them out with invisible claws.
