Asqa stood motionless in front of Clyde's door. Her heart heavy with fear. The screams behind it continued. It sounded raw, primal, and full of agony. Every one of them made her chest tighten. Fear that impossible to ignore crept in.
She clenched her fists and trying to steady herself. She told herself that this was necessary. This was what Clyde had chosen. Actually, what they both had chosen.
Soon… it would be her turn to feel that agony as well.
That thought chilled her even more. Part of the fear she felt came from witnessing Clyde's pain. But the other part came from within with the knowledge that she would eventually have to go through the same thing.
If she wanted power quickly and wanted to stand on equal ground with the Higher Beings above that would attack soon, she would have to endure that same torment.
Asqa sighed and whispered to herself with low and firm voice, like a mantra. "I'm doing this for a reason."
