Arabella took several deep breaths and closed her eyes to relax.
When she felt calm enough, she stared at the ceiling as Ferdinand said.
She lifted one finger of the pool one after the other slowly and did not dare make any extra moves.
Her heart was racing as she thought she would sink again, but this time, she didn't.
"Am I floating?" she asked Ferdinand with a frown on her face.
Ferdinand smiled proudly and said, "Yes, you're doing well!"
Arabella tried several more times after that and succeeded 7 out of 10.
The three times she failed were when she got distracted.
She was already delighted with seven successes, though. And she finally understood how to do it, so she won't sink.
Thus, when Ferdinand said, "Are you alright now? Can I float too?"
"Yes, but please pick me up quickly if I get distracted again," Arabella was no longer as scared as when she first tried.
