In the deep of night, a young man's pitiful voice kept coming from the room.
"No, Ranran..."
"This is too thrilling, I can't take it!"
"Boohoo, Ranran, you're so bad..."
Finally, a girl's voice sounded, unable to bear it any longer, "Shen Wu, enough!"
With this shout, Shen Wu stopped his performance. He seemed startled, looking at Wen Ran with a bewildered face. He had been crying moments ago, but on closer inspection, his eyes weren't even red.
Wen Ran looked at him coldly. With a "smack," she pulled out a bag of unfamiliar and uncooked small fruits from his storage Jade Pendant and ruthlessly tossed them out the window.
Shen Wu: "Meep..."
"Shut up."
He closed his mouth, his black, beady eyes not even blinking.
Wen Ran couldn't stand Shen Wu's affection for these worthless little things. Throwing them away was like taking his life, and he had to make those sounds that could easily be misunderstood!
Holding the Jade Pendant like a Kingdom Jade Seal, Wen Ran intimidated Shen Wu, rendering him too terrified to move.
She pulled out a bag of buns and unhesitatingly tossed them toward the window.
Shen Wu's gaze followed the parabolic trajectory until he heard the splash of things hitting the water, and his lips pressed into a line.
Wen Ran knew that Shen Wu was good at sweet-talking people. If she didn't watch him personally, he would definitely ignore her words.
Anyway, the things he had hoarded had been there for who knows how long; it was time for a thorough clean-up!
Finally, right in front of Shen Wu, Wen Ran walked to the window, stretched her hand holding the Jade Pendant outside, and shook it.
Everything poured out at once, and the "splash splash" sound of things hitting the water was nonstop.
Shen Wu suffered a blow. He swayed, looking at Wen Ran in disbelief, his face ashen like he had lost hope in life.
His pitiful helplessness was like the White-haired Girl being oppressed by Huang Shiren.
And Wen Ran was this Huang Shiren.
There was nothing left to throw. Only then did Wen Ran place the Jade Pendant back into his hand.
His hands shook as he held the Jade Pendant.
Wen Ran had seen him being charming under the moon, and like a little madman when fighting. This was her first time seeing him so fragile, as if he could topple with a gust of wind.
But she didn't relent.
With hands on her hips, Wen Ran solemnly warned him, "If you ever mix limbs and food, then you have to throw all the food away."
He sniffed, pursed his lips, "Why?"
"Because it's unsanitary, don't you have any common sense?"
Shen Wu only had one explanation, "Anything that's not toxic can be eaten."
Where on earth did he get this bizarre sense of cherishing food to such an extent?
Wen Ran asked him, "Has no one taught you that eating unsanitary things is bad?"
He shook his head, "No."
Wen Ran couldn't tell if he was being truthful, but that wasn't the point. She crossed her arms, exuding authority, "Then today I've taught you that unsanitary things shouldn't be eaten, so in the future, you have to pay attention."
Shen Wu's black eyes stared intently at her, "Ranran, you can't like me this much."
Wen Ran: "?"
"You don't want me eating these things; I know it's because you can't bear me getting sick."
Wen Ran: "...What did you say?"
Shen Wu somehow pulled out a book, which he had picked up in the Pear Blossom Forest, and pretentiously perused it, then looked at the words on the page and said with sudden realization, "So this is 'pain on you, ache in my heart'."
Shen Wu sighed, saying, "Ranran, your concern for me makes things difficult."
The young man clearly spoke of trouble, but the pride in his bright eyes suggested otherwise.
He raised a hand to his forehead, saying helplessly, "After all, I'm a good person who can't refuse a girl."
Wen Ran watched his performance for quite a while, then yanked the book from his hand and hurled it at his face.
"Go and have your daydreams!"
Shen Wu caught the book thrown at him and tilted his head slightly, "Shy?"
"Nonsense!"
Filled with anger, Wen Ran returned to her room.
She wasn't sure if Shen Wu had really had such dreams last night, but she was jolted awake by a nightmare in the middle of the night.
In the dream, everyone told her that Shen Wu was a good man, so good to her that marrying him would be a blessing. Shen Wu even earnestly said, "Ranran, we feel the same, and there's no time like the present; let's just consummate our marriage."
Wen Ran woke up so startled.
Oh no, she hoped she wasn't really being affected by that little madman Shen Wu, mistaking it for affection.
She sat on the bed, slapped her own face to wake herself up, and as she remembered the dream, she felt a wave of nausea.
She wanted to continue sleeping, but the noise outside kept her awake, so unable to stand it any longer, Wen Ran got out of bed, opened the window, and shouted at the person outside, "Shen Wu! Dare you try salvaging it again!"
The young man crouched by the shore, not caring about his image as Immortal Monarch. He held a makeshift tool, trying to fish out things from the bottom of the water.
Her shout made him pause.
After a while, he slapped a mosquito on his neck, then looked at the fierce girl in the window and softly said, "Ranran, I'm hungry."
What a weirdo!
She considered herself a foodie, but never to the extent he was.
Wen Ran wanted to scream in frustration. She ground her molars, thinking if she didn't solve his hunger, she wouldn't sleep well.
"Come here."
Shen Wu carried his makeshift bamboo-stick tool and in a few steps, stood in front of her.
Through the window, Wen Ran handed him a pack of jerky, "Eat this, and don't touch other dirty things."
This was the last pack of jerky she brought from the Ascension Immortal Mansion, and it pained her heart.
Shen Wu's eyes glistened, "Ranran, it seems you really like me..."
With a "smack," the window shut mercilessly.
The next day, a young disciple delivering breakfast curiously looked at the small red spots on Shen Wu's neck, "Senior Brother Shen, what happened to your neck?"
Shen Wu touched his neck, still a bit itchy, "Played late with a junior sister last night."
The young disciple understood, and his face turned red.
Wen Ran, who had just stepped out, felt a vein pop in her forehead.
