Don't say something like, 'These magical beasts live so comfortably in the wild, so why is raising them so demanding?' In the wild, magical beasts live anything but comfortably. Day and night, they have to figure out how to get food and stay safe, leaving them no energy to think about getting stronger. Powerful individuals rely either on natural talent or extraordinary encounters.
