Chapter 235 - Chapter 235

"Really?" Jane adjusted herself well on the bed so she could better hear Mrs Whitney. She can see the sadness written all over, and it breaks her heart to see Mrs Whitney this way.

"Yes! We were so in love with each other. He didn't care about my status. He loved me fiercely in every way possible, and I loved him back, too." Mrs Whitney broke down in tears, and Jane stood up from the bed. She pulled Mrs Whitney into her arms and patted her back.

"What then happened? Didn't you two end up together? Was the one you later married?" Jane asked even though she very much doubts the possibility. But it could be she's mourning her late husband.

"No, we didn't end up together. And I was never married, I lied." Mrs Whitney said her heart wrenching in pain.

"Why? You both seem to have been crazy about each other." Jane said, confused.

"We were too weak to fight for our love. I watched as another woman snatched him away from me. She lied that she was carrying his baby, and it all turned out to be a lie. I didn't trust him enough, and he couldn't stand up to his family either." Mrs Whitney continued.

"And now that I think about that. I'm sure he never slept with her. It was all part of that witch plan. I should have known that we should have known better. Instead, we refused to fight for our love. And I watched her snatch my love, life, and future away from me." Mrs Whitney said tears pouring down her eyes.

"Oh Mrs Whitney, I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. I didn't know, I thought you were married, I should have known. I'm sorry you had to carry this burden alone all these years." Jane apologised crying as well.

"You must not allow the same thing to happen to you. You must fight for Chris and your future, the future you want and deserve. You must not allow that snitch Angel to take him away from you. You can tell she's trying so hard to have him all to herself, and you must not allow that." Mrs Whitney said, and Jane nodded her head.

"You are going to be married to the richest man in the country and into the most powerful family. You must brace up and be strong, and do not allow anyone to strip you of that position no matter what." Mrs Whitney added.

"Do you hear me!" Mrs Whitney asked, and it struck Jane. Enough of her being so meek and innocent. She must fight when necessary and strong. It's the only way she can successfully be Chris's wife.

"I understand you, Mrs Whitney, I won't let anyone take this away from me no matter what or who." Jane assured her, and they hugged each other.

On the other side of town, Chris and Grace arrived at the Smith's mansion. Angel and Maria were in the living room together, and they seemed to be up to something.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Chris? You don't have to go through all these charades." Grace said, and Chris shook his head.

"No it's fine, we don't know what Mom and Angel will do next if we don't play along. I need you to trust me on this one. Just do as I say and try not to act suspicious, or they are going to know we are trying to fool them." He warned.

"Fine, as much as I hate this. I'm just going to play along with it. Come on now, brother, it's time for us to act." Grace said.

"Sure, at least you get to put your acting skills to use." Chris said, and Grace scoffed.

"You want me to give you lessons." Grace tilted her head towards his direction, and he smiled.

"I think I'm good, let's go." Chris said and dragged her along.

"Dad! Aunt Grace." Little Chris yelled in excitement, seeing them both. He ran towards them both, and Chris grabbed him, pulling him into a hug.

"How are you, son?" Chris asked, playing with his hair.

"I'm doing great, I spent the day with Uncle kyle as well as Jane." Chris narrated excitedly.

"Is that so? Your uncle Kyle must have given you both a treat. Thank you for taking care of them both, Kyle, and for also helping with the company while I'm away." Chris turned to Kyle and said.

"It's nothing, brother, that's why I'm here. And it's so much fun being around these two." Kyle said.

"My son finally came to his senses and his back home." Maria said.

"Yes mother, I'm back home just where you want me to be." Chris said, sounding sarcastic.

"Have you seen the news going around about you and Angel being engaged. Even though it's not true, there's nothing we can do about it now. We can't debunk the rumour. It's going to be bad for the image of the company and our family." Maria said, and Chris scoffed loudly. His mother must think him to be a fool.

"Really mother, the news seems to me like something that was perfectly planned by someone close to the family or in the family." Chris said, and Maria's eyes widened with shock.

Could it be that her son found out she was the one behind the fake news? She thought to herself, he's so going to kill her if he knows.

"Thelma take the kids to their room, I'm sure it passed their bedtime. Besides, I have news I would like to share, and I don't want the kids to hear of it now." Chris said and looked at Grace, who nodded at him.

"Yes Mr Chris," Thelma said and took the kids away to their room.

"We can discuss whatever it is at dinner or even later." Maria said.

"We can discuss it over dinner." Chris said and walked away. This is difficult for him to do, but he will have to put up with the nonsense for now.

At dinner, Maria felt restless, she's scared to her wits that Chris found out what she did. If this blows up, Chris will never marry Angel, and she will be doomed and thrown at the mercy of that bastard Jonas.

Angel likewise didn't feel too comfortable. What if Chris investigated and found out she was behind the shooting, and also the attack at the hospital, what will she do then?

Son, you said you were going to say something. What might that be, I'm kind of curious." Maria said, smiling sheepishly.

"Hmmm, I've been thinking, and I'm going to do as you have said, mother. I'm going to marry Angel." Chris announced.
