Chapter 369 - 373: A Plague of Phantoms: The Price of Revolution IV

Sin

"OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY!" I bellowed as I charged forward and swung my bearded blood axe, chopping off the head of a Chinese soldier who'd fired a stone spike at my head. The stone spike had only missed thanks to Pogs; who was right behind me and threw his arms forward and took the spike in my stead.

I was still in the Sadamas center and had been trying to make my way to the front door when I was suddenly attack out of nowhere by a group of Chinese and French soldiers. Trying to make my way outside to meet up with Iris took a backseat to trying to get out of the center alive. I had been confused as to what was happening until Chase's announcement warning everyone about the countries trying to kill him.

I gritted my teeth as I looked down the hallway that I had been forced to retreat down with Pogs. There were at least fifteen soldiers, minus the one I killed, ahead and already casting offensive and defensive spell sigil.

"POGS!" I roared and crouched low.

Pogs rocketed over me and charged at the splicers, his own blood axe raised and poised to cleave. I ran as fast as I could, keeping behind Pogs, using his larger body to hide my smaller one as I approached. Pogs cleaved in half the first three splicers who had been grouped together and trying to cast defensive spell sigils. I ran up Pog's slightly crouched back and jumped over him, throwing my blood axe at the splicers in the rear who had been casting a offensive spell sigil. My axe missed but the splicer had to duck and broke his concentration, interrupting his spell casting.

I hit the ground with a roll and immediately jumped up and drew my manalock and started firing at the closest splicers. None of them were prepared for me to suddenly start using magitech weapons or that the spell they cast to keep projectiles from hitting them didn't work if the projectile was made of mana. I dropped six splicers in rapid succession, their bodies erupting in a inferno of flames that only died when nothing was left but ash.

Pog let out a vicious trumpet as he jumped over me, his blood axe set ablaze and swung at the next closest splicer. The swing didn't cut him in half like his others did but cut deep enough to be fatal and then the force of the swing sent the splicer flying backwards into several other splicers. The injured splicer suddenly exploded, killing him and the splicers he landed on.

"Shit! Fall back! Fall…!"

I shot the screaming splicer in the back with an ice bullet before he could finish his order. The remaining splicers soon followed as Pogs and I finished them off.

Pogs told me through our mental connection. I frowned and agreed with my evo.

I replied then looked at the wall beside us. I raised my manalock and fired dark bullets at the wall. Black holes the size of a small child expanded on impact with the wall and immediately contracted, creating a hole large enough for Pogs and I to get out.

Pogs climbed out the hole and immediately started running through the courtyard of the Sadamas center. I followed close behind, my eyes darting between every shadow and looking for enemies waiting for an ambush. I didn't have to wait long, a loud bang signaled the beginning of a hail of bullets. Pogs had barely enough time to jump back to shield me from the spray. Bullets tore into Pogs, a couple high caliber ones split open his skull like a watermelon. Pogs fell back onto me, shielding me from the worst of the hailstorm.

I yelled through our link, however there was no reply. I gritted my teeth and thought about ways to get out of my situation, I knew Pogs wasn't dead since I could still feel his presence in my mind though it was muted. My options were limited since I had almost half a ton of evo laying on top of me but thankfully the shooting had stopped.

Pogs stuttered through our connection as his skull started to regenerate.

I roared though the connection.

Pogs asked, sounding more coherent than before. I attributed this to his brain regenerating. I fumbled with my holster; not easy to do under several hundred pounds of Ogrest; and felt the hilt of the manacite dagger Chase had given me and a plan instantly hatched.

I said then gripped the dagger's hilt, channeling mana into it immediately.

The soldiers that had fired the hailstorm of bullets hadn't rushed to check and make sure we were dead, obviously warned about Shaped evos ability to survive grievous wounds and were not in a hurry to rush over and get killed. Thanks to my postion I couldn't count or tell how many of them there were but years of fighting by myself or being hopelessly outnumbered honed my instincts and something told me there had to be at least thirteen soldiers with gun and probably a few more that were splicers.

They were jumped near the mouth of the courtyard, where there had been no cover. I had been lucky, if they hadn't focused all their firepower at the front and actually had some gunners behind Pogs and I then I would have been shredded to Swiss cheese.

"I think the big one is still alive!" I heard a voice yell.

I ordered.

Pogs did as he was ordered and unleashed and explosion on the back of his neck that propelled him upward to a standing position while I finished casting an axiom spell sigil and a green circle crystal formed in my hand.

"CRYSTAL GENESIS ACTIVATE!" I bellowed as I crushed the crystal and a wave of mana rushed from it and swept up Pogs.

"POGS CRYSTAL MERGE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Haws

"I'm getting pretty fucking tired of getting shot at you know!" I barked as I took cover behind a tree as bullets and fireballs flew in my direction. Alberto ducked behind a tree next to mine, barely avoiding getting hit himself.

"You and me both!" Alberto growled through gritted teeth. "You know how many of them there are?"

"What do I look like? Chase?" I balked then winced as a bullet blew a chunk of the tree trunk I was hiding behind. "Enough to piss me off!"

"MÚJO!" Alberto yelled then flung a crystal structure ahead of us into the darkness. I knew that Mújo was a equilore and that it excelled in close range fights, this however was not a close ranged fight.

"Alberto are you crazy!" I barked at the boy.

"Evo! Contact, target new priority!" A voice screamed out ahead of us. Gunfire changed from being focused on our cover to being focused on Alberto's evo.

"Don't worry! Mújo not going to lose easy!" Alberto exclaimed.

I peeked around my cover and saw that Alberto's equilore was dashing around and wearing through trees and dense cover with practiced ease. The American soldiers that were trying to shoot him couldn't keep the evo in its sights long enough to get a accurate shot off. I saw the evo disappear into the bushes that a couple shots came from and soon only screams and explosions followed.

"Haws!" Alberto called out to me. I looked up at him and saw Alberto tossing me his manacite revolver. I managed to catch it in mid-air and looked back at the boy incredulously. "You're a better shot than me. Use the magic gun and I'll use spells!"

"Got it!" I replied then focused on the soldiers beyond. I started firing randomly ahead of us, focusing on ice in my mind. Ice bullets started exploding and freezing the area ahead, drawing soldiers out of cover and making them easier targets for me to pick off.

Alberto started casting a purple spell sigil and six black ghostly chains appeared, wrapping around his arm. The ends of those chains had a little diamond shaped tip that seemed to move in sync with a nearby soldiers. Alberto's chains all shout out and disappeared into the darkness. Pained screams echoed through the forest a moment later. When the chains retracted the diamond points were stained with blood.

"Well of course Chase's spell works terrifyingly well!" Alberto grumbled. I frowned at the boy's statement but kept firing.

"Would you rather it didn't work?!" I exclaimed.

"I'd rather not think about how much more efficient and deadly this spell would be if it was in Chase's hands." Alberto grumbled, the chains on his arm suddenly snaking outward again.

"Think about that later! We can't just sit here and hope your evo can kill all these fuckers. Eventually they are going to get a brain and try to flank us." I quipped.

"Stop fucking jumping out when that ice creeps towards you and fucking flank them!" A voice called out.

"Too late…" I groaned then shot Alberto a look.

"Mad dash into the woods?" Alberto asked.

"Mad dash into the woods." I confirmed.

"MÚJO!" Alberto yelled as he turned and ran into the woods in the direction of the King's Glaive. I was right behind him, ignoring everything that was going on around me except Alberto's back as I ran.

There was one thing that managed to catch my attention however, two bright green lights shining almost blindingly behind us and in front of us. I couldn't help but look behind me. There were three pillars of green light shining high into the night sky. Two were in the direction of the Sadamas center behind us but only one ahead of us into the direction of the while willow forest.

"The hell is that?" I heard a voice yell. The sound startled me, it was much closer than I would have liked. That voice however was followed by a explosion and a gurgling scream which I assumed was Alberto's Equilore killing the soldier.

"Crystal Genesis spell!" Alberto yelled over his shoulder to me. I frowned, remembering the demonstration Chase and Jane gave back in Andromeda.

"Why are there three flashes then?!" I yelled back.

"Chase gave all the splicers a crystal genesis dagger!"

"Then why the fuck ain't you using it?!" I snapped, nearly tripping over a fallen tree branch in my effort to keep up with Alberto.

Alberto's equilore suddenly jumped over me and landed beside Alberto and kept running besides its master. I nearly shit myself when it appeared out of nowhere and nearly kicked me on the top of my head.

"I can't. Mújo and I don't have a strong enough bond yet." Alberto replied.

"Not yet…" Mújo added confidently.

A hail of bullets started flying around us. I winced and I felt a bullet wing my shoulder. I fired my manacite revolver at the ground behind me and a jagged ice spike erupted from the inside impact and blocked the bullets. I fired the manacite revolver several more times as I ran.

"So are we heading to the train or to whoever used that fusion spell thingy?" I asked.

"The mana train is made of a nearly indestructible crystal that only lets members of Sho'lajah inside and whoever that person is that fused is probably fighting a lot of splicers and evos. Which one do you think?" Alberto replied sarcastically.

"You're just as annoying as your father!" I snapped.
