Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Tea Eggs Worth Tens of Millions

After hurriedly delivering the cardboard box to the basement, Father Lin finally felt relieved.

Returning upstairs, he patted his chest with some lingering fear and then sat straight on the sofa, preparing to make a cup of tea to calm his nerves.

Suddenly he remembered that his tea canister was still in the kitchen. Shaking his head helplessly, he decided to forget about it.

He picked up the newspaper he had conveniently brought back from downstairs and started reading.

Time ticked by, and with a creak, the door opened, and Lin Yi emerged from his room looking weary.

Just as he left his room, Lin Yi couldn't help but sniff:

"What delicious thing is Empress Dowager Ye making? It smells so good!"

Hearing his son's words, Father Lin felt a pang of heartache, lamenting his newly purchased tea leaves. He'd only had a few cups before his wife took them to make tea eggs. He wondered how much tea she would use this time.

With a heart full of sympathy, he only uttered three words in a disgruntled tone: "Tea eggs."

"Oh, that's why there's a tea scent. Wait a minute, did you say Empress Dowager Ye is making tea eggs???"

Upon hearing his father's words, Lin Yi initially didn't think much of it. He casually said "oh" as he walked toward the bathroom, but suddenly halted after taking a few steps.

His eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at his father reading the newspaper, and his heart skipped a beat.

Brush~

Flipping the newspaper over, Father Lin glanced at his son, who was making a fuss, and felt somewhat gratified. He's truly my son, knowing to feel sorry for my tea leaves.

"Sigh"

Lowering his gaze back to the newspaper, he sighed helplessly and didn't engage with Lin Yi anymore.

What could he do? In this household, Empress Dowager Ye calls the shots alone...

Noting his father's helpless expression, Lin Yi couldn't help but swallow and then cast a complicated glance toward the kitchen, heaving a silent sigh:

"Sigh, others struggle to find even an ounce of Imperial Qian Longjing Tea, yet mom is using it to make tea eggs... It's truly one of a kind."

Smelling the rich aroma of tea in the air, Lin Yi knew that saying anything now was too late.

Moreover, if he rushed into the kitchen to tell Empress Dowager Ye that the tea she used for tea eggs was worth nearly three million per ounce, she might regret it enough to have a heart attack.

Oh well, what's the big deal? It's just a few thousand W worth of tea leaves. As long as mom is happy, even if they're used as firewood, so be it.

At worst, he could get some Longjing tea and recreate some later.

For others, Imperial Qian Longjing Tea is hard to come by, but for him, it's no different from ordinary tea leaves.

With this thought, Lin Yi felt relieved and continued to the bathroom to run the water.

By the time he finished washing up and came out, his mom had already come out of the kitchen, holding a large bowl of tea eggs.

"Hey, you've got quite the nose. Just as I finished, here you are, come eat them while they're hot."

Seeing this, Lao Lin quickly got up and went to the kitchen, returning shortly with a heartache expression, clutching the tea canister.

Seeing the look on his face, Lin Yi didn't even need to ask; he knew a lot of tea had been used.

Actually, there was no need to ask. Just looking at the number of tea eggs in the bowl could tell you enough.

"Look at you being so stingy. Your heart hurts over using a bit of tea! If it bothers you that much, then don't eat the tea eggs."

Seeing Lao Lin's pained expression, Empress Dowager Ye rolled her eyes and scolded him irritably.

Hearing Empress Dowager Ye's words, Lao Lin forced a smile more bitter than a cry. Ignoring her expression, he sat at the dining table and picked up a tea egg.

He sighed helplessly in his heart:

'Come on, am I not allowed to eat the eggs boiled with my tea leaves? That would be too much of a loss. Sigh, from now on, it's better not to keep too much tea at home. I'll store it at the office for safety.'

Seeing her husband's expression, Empress Dowager Ye couldn't help but laugh:

"Behave yourself. But in all seriousness, Lao Lin, this tea you bought is really good. The fragrant aroma is much better than the previous ones. Why not leave it in the kitchen for tea eggs, and go buy another canister for drinking."

Cough cough cough cough~

Just as Empress Dowager Ye finished speaking, Lin Yi, who was peeling a tea egg nearby, started coughing as he choked on his own saliva.

Whoa, three million per ounce of tea, how could it not smell good...

Handing the peeled tea egg to his son's plate, he scolded:

"You're eating, what's with this bad habit? Next time, don't cough towards the dining table! Here, eat this sausage and these two eggs, and make sure to score a hundred on tomorrow's exam!"

"Pfft, Empress Dowager Ye, can we not be so superstitious? Ever since I was little, you've been feeding me this before every exam. Did I ever score a hundred? And besides, tomorrow's exam subjects are all out of one hundred and fifty, do you want me to score a hundred for you?"

Slap!

Before Lin Yi could finish speaking, he received a slap on the back from Empress Dowager Ye, followed by her roaring voice:

"Where do you get all this nonsense? Talking back now, are you? Do you have an itch for punishment?"

While saying this, Empress Dowager Ye rolled up her sleeves with a look that said one more word out of you and I'll deal with you.

Lin Yi immediately backed down, retracting his neck helplessly and quickly lowered his head to eat his tea egg, while Father Lin laughed quietly beside him.

But seeing this, Empress Dowager Ye glared, and Father Lin stifled his laughter, raising his bitten tea egg innocently: "Cough cough, today's tea eggs are really fragrant..."

Although Lin Yi knew his dad was flattering Empress Dowager Ye, he couldn't help smirking. He really wanted to tell Lao Lin, with just one bite, you've lost at least several thousand W. Of course, it tastes good...

Looking at the father and son with their heads buried in their bowls, Empress Dowager Ye also couldn't help but laugh. For an ordinary housewife, this was the happiest moment.

After breakfast, Lao Lin left for work clutching the tea canister. Of course, to avoid burdening his parents, Lin Yi never mentioned the tea's worth.

And because the college entrance exam was the next day, Empress Dowager Ye took a leave of absence to spend the day with her son, even though Lin Yi's objections were ultimately in vain.

What Lin Yi didn't expect was that when Lao Lin took the tea canister to work, some interesting events unfolded...
