Ivan was gone.
I handed him the knife, said what I needed to say, blinked, and he disappeared. Worse, it was like he was never there in the first place. His scent, the warmth of his body, everything was gone. Now, I stood there, trying not to fall apart. I knew he had to go, but I'd hoped for something more.
"Let's go," Dane approached, not giving me a moment to grieve. It sounds stupid, but I missed Ivan already. I wanted more time with him but was told I couldn't do that.
"Why are you here?" I turned, narrowing my eyes at Dane. I'd wanted to ask this before, but I also didn't want to have a full-on fight in front of Ivan. "You just show up here like it's normal? Then you expect me to listen to you because I'm supposed to know you?"
"Wasn't my idea to come," he shot back, scowling at me like I'd spat at him. "I got pulled in, just like you. That's the fun problem with fae magic. It does whatever the fuck it wants."
