Chapter 558 - Lost Status

The result was that she was disowned by her own family and was kicked out to avoid her causing them any further problems.

Whatever happened to her was no longer something the family was worried about since she was no longer useful.

After leaving the large gate that had a couple of guards standing around, Marceline was still wearing the same frilly dress that had a corset over the top.

There were very few belongings that she was able to bring along with her before she was kicked out, but she had been unable to dress in more suitable attire.

Marceline looked dispirited as she took one final look toward the place she once called home. "So this is it... Now what should I do?"

A voice rang out from behind as a figure came running toward the gate before being allowed to exit. "Miss! I am coming with you."

The person coming toward Marceline was a woman with grey eyes and medium-length reddish-brown hair.

She was dressed in a black maid's attire with an apron over the dress, which showed her current position. "Miss, I quit."

Marceline sighed. "Go back. I am sure the family would accept you back if you hurried back quickly. There is no benefit in staying with me."

Marceline had already considered the implications of what had taken place, and she knew that her position in the Archipelago had become very difficult.

It would be difficult for her to survive with how things were, which made it just as difficult for those who would be willing to accompany her.

The maid frowned in response before cutting off her words. "It is too late. I have already decided. I will be by your side until the end. I promised after all!"

Those words made Marceline feel a little sentimental. "You still have a chance to... nothing good will come from sticking with me. I do not have a plan this time..."

The maid patted her chest before hurrying to accompany her. "Then let's come up with something together. How about we stop by somewhere to sell some things first so we can get you an appropriate change of clothes?"

It was difficult for Marceline to keep denying the suggestions of the maid, so she eventually left along with her before heading to a dress shop to trade her current attire in for a less expensive set of clothes that let her blend in more with the masses.

The maid had removed her maid attire too while dressing casually, which caused Marceline to sigh. "I guess you can stop referring to me as young miss or anything else now. Just call me Marceline or Marcy."

The maid nodded before smiling. "Okay, then you can just call me Bonnie if you are comfortable with that!"

They shared a brief moment where their troubles did not seem so heavy, but the world was not always so carefree.

Outside of those walls existed many unknown variables that could endanger both of them at any moment.

The world was not a safe place for a noble who had lost their status, and it was especially cruel to those who fell from a very high position.

It was not long before the two of them were looking for a place to stay for the night when several figures surrounded them and began dragging them toward a nearby back alley.

Bonnie, the maid, was thrashing around as the thugs kept dragging them away. "Young miss... Marce... run!"

Marceline struggled against the thugs too as she tried to remember her self-defence teachings. "Unhand me!"

Unfortunately, the gap in physical capabilities was too large, and she had no real experience.

Marceline had only been taught the bare minimum, which would have been useful for her to become a Queen, but it was not something that was taught further.

She was taught that having a basic ability to fend off others was essential, but it was the role of others to protect her, so she would likely not have to use them unless something unexpected happened. She was required to stall for time until guards came.

If something was essential to learn as a part of her duties as a Queen, then she would be forced to learn it from a young age.

If it was something that was deemed unnecessary, then she was not allowed to go near such things, even if she had an interest in something in particular.

Marceline had lived her life fulfilling the demands of the family and the royal family while never really taking the time to do anything she desired.

As she was being dragged away, Marceline was filled with regret and dissatisfaction. 'If only I got to do just this one thing... or anything, then perhaps I might not die filled with so much regret.'

She closed her eyes helplessly as she tried to shut out what was about to happen to her, but she caught the voices from the thugs surrounding her. "Heh! Such a pretty young lady. It is a shame that you have to die today. If it was not for the client's request, then perhaps.... hehe."

Marceline understood so much about her homeland and the various politics that were going on.

She understood that she had lost the political battle due to losing the prince to another.

The balance of power in the Blanc Archipelago had shifted, and that was why her family chose to abandon her.

Without her family protecting her, she would be left to fend for herself, but that would never be enough for her to suffer.

Others would not let her go so easily, whether it was her political rivals, enemies or even the families supporting the woman who had stolen the crown prince from her.
