Chapter 1 - Kaela, The Killing Machine

Accounts of Kaela, The Killing Machine

August 24

43rd Year of the Demon King, Absaloth

The night is cold, the moonlight desperately enter through the leaves of the forest. I don't know what to expect, but they said it will be painful. But worry not, I am already used to it. Ever since I was young, I survived trials and sufferings. Those were the days, poor and immature. In the present, I am now strong.

As of now, I'm following Esnyr in the dark forest. We are at the southwest of Luciano Kingdom, near that Heymouth Volcano. Honestly, the hike is awful, there is no path here so the two of us just made our way by ourselves. I wonder if it is one of their trials.

"Are you ready for tonight, Kaela?" Esnyr asked. I did not expect for him to say anything as he was just quiet during the walk.

"Hmm." I nodded.

"As expected, Kaela the Killing Machine. I wonder what made you think about joining us? I can sense that you're also one of the talkative ones." Esnyr smiled while he is walking ahead of me.

I did not answer him. I have learned since then to not talk excessively, or it will be your doom. Well, as important as communication as it be, it is better to shut up.

"We are here."

Esnyr looked at me while smiling. I saw some inscriptions on the walls of the cliff. They are very intricate, as if the gods actually came here from the ancient times and carved it with their godly tools or magic.

"They are teleportation inscriptions, very nice indeed. It will transfer us to a different place, of course it is to prevent the enemies knowing our headquarters. Isn't it beautiful?"

He answered the inquiry in my brain. I am curious on what are the steps to activate the teleportation inscriptions. I already saw different kinds of teleportation modes but I feel like this a rare type.

"Please touch the inscriptions."

Esnyr pointed his forehead with his two fingers while touching the wall. The wall glowed and I saw some light pink particles on his body shining.

"Per Haver Estrera. Kun Jo Ki Kelaver. Ploia Jehar Yulhavor. Pemora Haliver." Esnyr chanted, I can hear what he said but did not understand. It may be an ancient language, I am quite curious on what it means.

One second after, circular light patterns appeared on our feet. It is very bright but I am sure that if I am outside the forest, nobody can see it. I thought that it will be different from the others, but it seems to have the same mechanics with the teleport scrolls in the imperial palace. When I closed my eyes, I feel like my body was dropped forcefully. The dizziness is killing me. And then we appeared on the entrance of the headquarters.

The guardian in the entrance saw the two of us, but he did not bother to greet us. Not until it occurred to me that I really need to vomit because of the dizziness. Fuck it, why does it have to be this way?

"It seems that our friend is not feeling well on our journey. But let us hurry, the elders must be waiting for us." Esnyr laughed while walking through the brown door. I gripped my fists and followed him.

Inside, it is very elegant, the walls are minimal but the high ceilings are extravagant. The black furniture complimented the whiteness of the walls so there's that. On the center is the small round table, there are cards and butts of cigarette on it.

'No time to wander around here.' I thought.

The doors seem to have some hallucinating effects, it also distorted my eyesight. Better not look at it.

I followed Esnyr through the hall. After a while, he reached out to a black door and twisted its knob.

"It looks like that we have to part ways here. I must say, there is really no need to be worry. Easy peazy. Hehe, gotta go." Esnyr just dashed away from me while leaving the door open. He really must be a careless person.

I entered through it and saw a very dark surrounding, there are definitely people here but I can't see them. Inside, there is a circular white light on the center and a man standing besides the table. He's wearing a dominant white robes adored with gold jewelries and accessories.

He raised his right hand and I was immediately drifted towards his front. I was not ready for it, but thankfully I had kept my serious facade.

"Kneel, woman." He said with a condescending tone but it did not have an air of arrogance. Being powerful have their own right I guess.

I knelt down with my left foot after he said that, the feeling is not heavy but I feel elated instead.

"What is your name?" The man asked.

"Kaela." I answered.

"Kaela?"

"Just Kaela, sir."

The man frowned. "Your surname?" He followed.

"I do not have a last name, sir."

"And why is that?" He questioned.

"I have already forsaken my last name, for it bears no use and meaning for me. I will live with just my own name, without being attached to something."

As I have said, I do not have a last name anymore, I even forgot about it already.

The man sighed. He walked around the table and must be thinking of something. "Kaela, you must have a surname."

Why is he bent on surnames?

"According to the books, in the time of the gods and creation, the most powerful people of the middle realm were promised to be given with surnames to ascend to sainthood. Surname brings glory and riches one can imagine, also power. So of course, they attached great attention to it when someone appears to be near the treshold of limits. As expected, it is very difficult to surpass it. People still tried, but most of them died because of the exhaustion of the magic cores inside their bodies."

The man stopped walking after that. He looked at myself while having a smile.

"There was one man who did the impossible."

I looked at the smiling man infront of me and asked. "And who was it?"

"Aeniel Doombringer, The Harbinger of Death."

I do not know such person, there are no records of him in the annals.

"You must be curious on how he did it. Actually, he did not passed the treshold of limits. He made a bet with the Goddess of Death; as for what that bet is, I don't know, the books didn't specify it."

The man reached for the cloth on the table and thrown it away. A crystal ball can be seen, same size with a basketball.

"It must be confusing for you as the text is very lacking and just casually mentioned it on the books, but the process of giving surnames attached great importance to us. Now then, what role will be given to you after this."

The man gave a sinister smile as he activated the runes on the crystal ball. He signalled me to touch the ball so I walked to it. When I touched it, an electric feeling buzzed me throughout my body. It was very painful. Hidden memories were unlocked and deep desires are shown.

I dropped on the floor when the crystal ball was finished and wriggled in pain. My mind was polluted by the sudden invasion of the greater power in my body. I hear the man talking to me incoherently.

"Con... tions... Kaela De... Welcome... the Bloody Carnival."
