After everyone had exited the war room, Queen Beatrice was stopped from exiting the chamber by her husband, William. He did not look happy with her.
"Clancy told you to seek shelter with the others. Why did you not listen?"
"I-I wanted to know what we're facing. I am Queen. Shouldn't I know? She asked him, searching his face for understanding. There was none.
A knot of unease settled in her guts. William looked as if he wanted to say something to Beatrice. She wanted him to say whatever was on his mind, but instead, William clenched his jaw, then roughly pulled her to him and held her close. The embrace was a long one.
