Anything that has some sort of strong protective measure, the scanning feature wouldn't be able to peer through it until Rex got his hands on them. Like the Forsaken Tower, the mechanism couldn't be fully deciphered until Rex found its foundation.

Summoning the Red Dawn of Kaiser, Rex struck the lock and broke it rather easily.
He scanned the treasure box again and found no hostile protection.
It seemed the protection on the treasure box was meant to hide it, not hurt anyone who opened it.
