West Mountain.
The snow was getting heavier, and with dusk approaching, the temperature at the summit plummeted. Mary Scott hadn't come up yet, and Simon Baker saw the others freezing and shivering uncontrollably. Acting promptly, he instructed the staff to take Brian Joule and the group down the mountain. If they stayed in this cold any longer, those on the mountain might collapse, but those at the summit were already on the verge of succumbing to illness.
However, despite Simon's orders, no one moved.
James Jerome, who had abandoned Mary midway earlier, leaving her alone, was deeply remorseful—even though both he and the others knew she was safe now. Adding the unknown whereabouts of Adam Piers and Zoe Thatcher to the mix, the weight on his conscience grew heavier with age and guilt, refusing to leave until Mary made her way back.
