Jumoke was silent as Uchenna looked at her with those hooded eyes, waiting for her to respond to his question.
After a beat, she finally nodded, saying, "Yeah, and now that I've given it to you, I can be on my way."
A slow smile curled at the corners of his lips, making him look even more irresistible.
"So," he said, raising the AirPods with a teasing glint in his eyes, "you want me to believe you drove all the way here just to hand me these?"
He glanced at her and added, "I noticed you picked your car up from the mechanic."
"Yeah," she admitted.
He laughed softly.
She shook her head. "You say that like we live miles apart. My place is only about thirty minutes from yours."
Uchenna nodded, but he didn't seem convinced. He held her gaze, then slowly closed the distance between them, as if daring her to back away.
Jumoke wanted to, but her legs seemed to have lost all ability to move. She stayed rooted to the spot.
