Dragon King's Harem Chapter 355. Proud I

Those words were enough to make him understand.

"Your Majesty… do you want…" His words trailed off, and his eyes searched my face for any sign of uncertainty.

"Yes," I said without hesitation, my voice steady and resolute.

Eir glanced around, his eyes darting like a nervous bird, as if spies lurked in every shadow. He leaned closer to me, his voice dropping to a whisper.

"But, wouldn't that be a declaration of war?" None of us stopped our steps.

We were not afraid of war; we were forged in its fires. But another war, so soon after the last, was not something to be taken lightly. It could ruin my reputation, paint me as a king who craved conflict rather than peace.

They could say that I was mad for war, even though my reasons were just. Unfortunately, some prisoners, especially those without status or noble blood, were not seen as worthy causes for starting another war.

A sly smirk appeared on my lips.

"That's why I also need the creatures list around their route," I stated, my voice dripping with calculated menace.

"I won't get my hands dirty. If he survives or manages to escape, he can't blame this on me. I just need to make sure I don't leave any evidence behind," I said in a casual tone, as if discussing the weather.

Eir straightened his posture. The flicker of realization in his eyes was almost immediate.

"Ah, I get it," he said, nodding thoughtfully. "I will take care of it right away," he added, his tone now filled with determination.

I nodded, dismissing Eir, who quickly left. I watched him disappear before turning and entering my tent, the central hub for all meetings.

I moved to my seat at the head of the large wooden table. With a casual air, I picked up a piece of fruit from the platter in front of me.

My eyes focused on the spot where Viperax had sat earlier, his presence lingering like a ghost. But my mind was far from the present.

This endeavor was fraught with peril. I knew that executing it with my own hands was not just dangerous—it was reckless. But there was a method to my madness. My portal skills. This made me the best candidate for the mission, despite the inherent risks.

I could have delegated this task. I could have ordered my most trusted warriors to undertake it, but none of them could wield the portal skill as I could. And should things go awry, an assassination would be required.

Only a king can defeat another king, after all. The hierarchy of power was clear and unyielding. It was a rare occurrence for anyone of lesser status to defeat a king, and when it did happen, it was usually another member of royalty, either from within the kingdom or an outsider seeking to claim power.

A soft hum escaped my lips. "Hm?" I glanced to my side, where Jyne was seated.

Her usual vivacious energy was conspicuously absent, replaced by a disconcerting stillness. Her eyes stared blankly ahead.

Without thinking, I picked up a small, orange grape-shaped fruit from the platter in front of me. I leaned towards her and gently plopped the fruit into her slightly open mouth.

The fruit managed to bring her back to reality. Her eyes widened slightly, and she blinked, the blankness fading as she turned to look at me. Her mouth began to chew the fruit slowly, and an innocent, almost childlike look of surprise crossed her face.

I let out a low chuckle. Smiling at Jyne, I teased, "Does the fruit manage to bring you back to reality?"

She nodded, her face still looking innocent and somewhat bewildered.

"Feeling better?" I asked softly.

Jyne swallowed the fruit and nodded slowly. "I... I think so," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You were miles away," I said, trying to coax a smile from her. "I thought I might have lost you to the void," I joked.

"I just... I can't believe what I had done," Jyne said softly, her voice gaining a bit of strength.

I reached out and placed my hand gently on her head, stroking her hair slowly.

"You just did a good thing, Jyne," I said softly, my voice filled with genuine admiration. "No, you just performed a miracle."

"I know. That's what surprised me," she admitted, her voice shaky. It was clear she still couldn't fully grasp what had happened.

"I mean… I always think that… I can't do much other than playing around and making my family get a headache. But suddenly…" Her words trailed off as she looked down at her hands, her fingers trembling slightly. A sad smile grew on her lips. "I could revive the dead in ways that even I don't understand. I didn't even know I could do this, Your Majesty," she said, her voice wavering again.

"Like I said, it's a miracle, Jyne. The one who fights is not only us, but also that dragon. He might have almost given up but he changed his mind at the last moment. That is a good thing," I said softly.
