The intersection of their paths, even for a brief moment, brought advantages to Layton. From Erza's path, Layton could feel the runes hidden in the shapes of weapons; they outlined the rules and core of the world. His experience and expertise in plane architecture allowed him to quickly feel what was at the core of this constructed world and that was resonance, the core rule birthed from her imprinted rune, a vital component in the intrinsic order of the constructed world.
Although Layton's path wasn't one of runes, he used his insights to declutter the rules represented by the rune and re-expressed it in another form. Inspired by Erza, Layton realized he could embed resonant nodes into his architecture ones not dependent on sound or energy frequencies, but on mimicry.
