( Matt's POV )
I walked inside the long room and soon the small massacre I committed against the monsters turned into loot, Anis followed behind me and admired the trap I had created.
Anis: Don't you think you went a little too far?
Matt: Considering what goblins and monsters like them in most of their incarnations do to women they capture, no, I don't believe it at all.
Anis: Well, that's a very valid point.
Maybe it wasn't admiration she felt when she saw my work.
With the addition of the Ogres to the monster gallery of this dungeon we modify our strategy a little, they were big and faster than one would imagine so when we found them among the enemies we would fill them with holes before they could get close, Still, I told Anís to leave his main weapon for emergencies.
Our exploration slowed down a bit with the appearance of a new monster but our teamwork got us to the stairs without any major incidents, on the ninth floor, the tunnels became a little wider, and I had a bad feeling about that.
Anis: Wait, do you hear that?
We continued exploring with extra caution, and Anis was the first to detect something, but the map wasn't responding.
Matt: No.
Anis: It must be because my senses are superior.
Matt: Are you bragging? Well, never mind, where's the sound coming from?
Anis closed her eyes and concentrated on listening, and she responded quickly.
Anis: Um... It's coming from inside the walls..
Matt: Inside the walls? Is it some kind of mechanism? Are there any hidden traps?
Anis: No, that sounds like... digging?
I put my ear to the wall and I could hear the sound that Anis was describing, also that the sound was growing louder quickly, Whatever was making that noise was getting closer.
Matt: Stay sharp!
We got into battle stance on opposite sides of the hallway and when the wall exploded open a strange round creature with spikes came out, I tried to stab him with my knives, but that was stronger than I expected, and my knives broke.
Matt: I think this counts as an emergency.
Anis: I got it!
Anis switched to her grenade launcher and she shot at the new monster but that thing rolled around the walls to dodge the attack, it ended up on the ceiling above Anis and threw itself on top of her, Moving without thinking, I lunged and pushed Anis out of danger.
Anis: um t-thanks... But I could have dodged that.
Matt: I'm sorry, my body moved on its own, do me a favor, help me if I suddenly stop moving.
Anis: eh, what do you mean by that?
With my knives useless I decided to use my cursed sword, I took out my long Katana Masamune and when the Katana was in my hands a strange and somewhat arctic sensation flowed through my body, I shook my head to put that feeling on the back of my head and I took a swing at the strange creature, my Katana was able to leave a deep cut without breaking but the vibration created when it connected with the creature prevented it from making a second attack.
Upon receiving my attack the creature rolled back and uncoiled, revealing its true appearance, which was a kind of armadillo with a shell with stone spikes and a reptilian head with shark teeth.
Elis: an earth dragon! Be careful, their defense is very high and your earth Psynergy is not very effective.
Matt: Thanks for the information, Anis, I'm going to restrain the dragon, you know what to do.
I ran towards the dragon and the monster raised its front legs and with a powerful stomp some stone stakes emerged in a line towards me, Elis said my Psynergy wouldn't be effective but I was able to use it to lower the stone stakes back down into the ground, I used my Katana to stab one of its legs and then used my psychic hands to push the creature against the wall, at which point Anis fired a couple of grenades.
Being so close to the grenades my body suffered some damage and I began to heal immediately.
The dragon survived the explosion but its weaker flesh was exposed, I quickly drew my broadsword and stabbed the dragon, the creature let out a roar of pain and when I twisted the sword the monster transformed into money.
Matt: *Sigh* I'm getting a little tired, It's a good thing we only have one more floor to climb.
Elis: Are you having second thoughts about choosing an easier dungeon?
Matt: What are you saying? We're practically at the finish line.
Anís approached me while I was talking to Elis, and she gave me a hand to help me up.
Anis: I thought you were the cautious type, but it turns out you're actually quite reckless.
Elis: Oh, thanks for saying that.
Matt: Hey, I'm cautious when the situation calls for it.
Anis: I guess that's true.
Despite having found a new monster we explored half the floor without finding another earth dragon But when I reached the last big room before the stairs, Anis put a hand on my shoulder and signaled that she was hearing to something.
We looked behind a barricade I had created at the edge of the room, and saw a land dragon on all fours entering the room.
Matt: Okay, let's go.
Anis: Wait a minute!
I was going to jump over the barricade to face the dragon but Anis pulled me back and she pointed to another corridor and I saw another dragon in ball form rolling inside the room, two at the same time could be a problem.
Being so close to the stairs the easiest thing would be to wait for the dragons to roll away and sneak to the stairs But after a while of observing the monsters it was clear that that wasn't going to happen, we'll be in more trouble if we let the rest of the monsters respawn so we had to act.
