He took Ya Xi's hand off, but Ya Xi grabbed his hand in return, softly whimpering, "Don't go, don't leave me alone." Doug thought she had woken up, but she was still asleep. As before, he had no choice but to sit on the floor and rest leaning against the bed.
Doug was woken up in the middle of the night by Ya Xi's movements, as Ya Xi got up wanting some water, only to be surprised to see Doug was still there, resting with his legs curled on the edge of the bed. A warm current flowed in Ya Xi's heart.
She had not known Doug for long, and their interactions had not been much, yet Doug had taken care of her like this when she was ill. Last time, when she was upset, he patiently comforted her. Ya Xi couldn't articulate how she felt at the moment.
When Doug awoke from the noise and met Ya Xi's eyes, Ya Xi smiled apologetically, "Sorry, I woke you up."
As Doug tried to get up, his legs grew numb. He patted his legs and waited a bit before standing. "It's nothing. Can't sleep?"
